Eildon is located north of the Great Dividing Range, approximately 160km north-east of Melbourne, and is Victoria’s most popular inland boating and fishing destination.
Making your way to Eildon (Melways ref 510 U8) is done via either the Maroondah Hwy or the Melba Hwy (via Alexandra) .
Via Maroondah Hwy:
Follow the Maroondah Hwy through Lilydale, Coldstream & Healesville (27kms - 20mins).
From Healesville you will continue straight through the lush Black Spur forest and past Narbethong, Buxton and then Taggarty (44kms - 35mins).
At Taggarty, turn right and continue through to Thornton
(16km - 12mins).
At the Thornton intersection, turn right into
Goulburn Valley Highway and continue until you cross the bridge that takes you over the Eildon pondage (13.7km - 10mins).
Immediately after crossing the bridge, the Golden Trout Hotel is on the left.
Via Alexandra (From Melba Hwy):
Take the Alexandra turn off at either Cathkin (when driving from the South) or just after Yarck (if driving from the North). Continue driving straight on until you arrive at the Goulburn Valley Hwy and Maroondah Hwy intersection in the centre of the Alexandra township (17km-13mins).
At this intersection turn left onto Goulburn Valley Hwy. Continue driving along the Goulburn Valley Hwy until you reach Thornton (11km - 8 mins)
Proceed straight through Thornton and continue until you cross the bridge that takes you over the Eildon pondage (13.7km - 10mins).
Immediately after crossing the bridge, the Golden Trout Hotel is on the left.
